Elder Scrolls V - SKYRIM

So...the newest Elder Scrolls Game is out. And as many of you mighthave guessed, I am pretty intrigued.
Lets make  this easy, I am going to list of the good and the bad:

The Good:
  1. Graphics look good and are still playable even on severely old machines
  2. The new leveling system works mightily fine, if abuse is self-prevented
  3. The World feels kind of alive, not yet Ultima VII style, but they are on their way

Now, about the bad:

  1. AI. Maker is it dumb, several times I was able to pick them off with my bow despite standing in plain view
  2. The Interface is atrocious for a pc-game. Simply a no-no Bethesda, big minus
  3. The procedurally generated quest-system is nice in theory, but kind of pointless
  4. The fighting continues to feel hamhanded with the way the game goes about it.
  5. Magic, used correctly, is way overpowered.
  6. Leveling-scale system. Not as bad as Oblivion, but still, I do kind of hate it. I really don´t want to find daedric armour in every other bandit cave, you know.
  7. Crafting system flawed. Many of the crafting choices are too easily obtainable and make the loot acquirable pretty much pointless. Basically it goes like this: Why go questing, when my craft armor is way better?
  8. Once again, merchants are pretty much piss-poor. If you are able to have a house in Solitude (25k gold btw.), then why is your daily gold set at 500 or 750 gold. The player can´t even sell basic loot at that level.

Now, you might think that I am bascially thrashing on this game, but you should already be aware of the fact, that I am very much entranced by it. Basically, even with its flaws, it will keep on being awesome. I know it isn´t GOTY, as this role is clearly cut out for The Witcher 2, but I´ll be damned, if SKYRIM isn´t at least second best.

Oh, and names are untranslatable. I mean, come on guys, the german translation is hilarously bad.

Still in the North

So, I wanted to write something about Skyrim today. I won´t, for any matter, because I am still playing. And I fear it will go on for quite some time now, despite the fact that I can participate in the Star Wars Old Republic Beta Weekend and LA Noir is still waiting on me...damn. Oh well, back to Skyrim....

New Qualities

Modern times have seen a rise in extremist ideologies. Especially the past few years and the current economical developments have shown people more and more aligning themselves to the right extremist factions of Europe, possibly northern America as well, but I am no expert for transatlantic politics. How and why I hear many ask. While I do have my suspicions, the situation needs patience.

And I need more time for something sensible to write here.

Besides, my time is currently divided between the new Elder Scrolls game and LA Noire. Haven´t even begun to touch Arkham City. And the coming weekend sees the first beta days for The Old Republic for me. So we can throw Star Wars in there. Damn, I need more time.

NEBEL

Uuuahhh.

Historical Absurdity

Man does not learn. History is doomed to repeat itself. Always? Perhaps. But even so, the question remains, when this would be the case. It is my belief, that history cannot be stopped. What can be done with it, however, is delay it. Every time in our own lifes we are able to delay the inevitable. And maybe, just maybe, in time, humanity can break its own cycle.

Take note, I do believe in several basic formulas that can be named, but their expression in time changed, not to mention of new schemes being created with times marching on. No, there was and never had been a past-ages high technology civilization dying on Atlantis. Now get lost.

Revisiting Blade Runner

So, it seems Ridley Scott has finally agreed to "helm" a new Blade Runner project which he most likely will also direct. The scriptwriter he is currently looking for and production has been supposedly underway for some time now. I know that Ridley Scott is not the worst director I can find on this world, and most likely, as he said, that he won´t revisit old characters, this will not be a direct sequel, but why do I have this feeling of dread coming on?

To the Moon

Seldomly I find good writing in videogames. Obsidian Entertainment sometimes makes it happen with some of their games, but those are gems and nuggets you have to search for in a mountain of crap.

Not so with this Indi gem which I can only tell everyone to support wholeheartedly. Not only is the story good, it´s also written in a good way and really made me pull on my hankerchief this time. You know, this is the kind of adventure game I can get behind.

Great music, good storytelling, and compelling writing. Who cares it´s in 2d, frankly.

Seltsame Informationen - Strange Info

And now for the non-germans among you:

Including this post, I´ve written 521 entries till today.
The Top 4 search entries leading to the blog

3. Mutterschaftsglückwünsche [Pregnancy well wishes]

While Nr.4 might go because I´ve written alow about The Dark Eye in the past years, Nr.3 made my day, so to speak. I mean, really, when have I ever talked about pregnancy? Nr.1 makes me sad. I liked Nielsen.

About 55% of people find the page with google, 20% going trough blogs which are ... well...let us say copyright is no concern for them, and the rest, about 25% come from very different links I´ve never even heard of.

About half of all page views comes from germany, a third from the US, then we have some 7% from Russia (with love?), 4% from Austria (what? why? how? I´m bloody prussian, you guys read my entries?!)  and the rest comes from places like Brasil, Indonesia, Singapore and several other places across the world. I am still trying to decide how much of that is from bots and real people..

A bit more than one third of the readers still uses IE, a bit behind one third for the Firefox and the rest goes to Chrome, Opera and "Among others...".

More than 75% of you folks use Windows, 10% read with some sort of android system and the rest is divided among Mac and Linux. Huh..

Most page views come to the news postings, and immediatly behind we have the roleplay entries for the Year of Fire (hmm, more fitting might be A Year in Flames or something like that...) and very far off are those having me talking endlessly about some BS and stuff.

Now you know. And knowing is half the Battle.

Adversity and Conflict as Means of Cultural Development

"A culture´s teachings and most importantly, the nature of its people, achieve definition in conflict. They find themselves, or find themselves lacking"

Law - Humans

About the alignment of humans, ever since the earliest DnD-rules it was written for humans:

"Humans are a race with the most diverse of all aligments. The best and the worst can be found among them."

Indeed, this morning we worked with a few cases of criminal law. Humans can be disgusting bastards.

Visions of Aftermath

For all matters not cheap, but I´ll be damned if I haven´t just gotten an awesome deal. For years I was looking for this game and now finally, this november, I will be able to hold a true and aged copy of this piece of gaming history in my hands. Now, of course I won´t be able to use the floppy disks enclosed within, but then again, I would be more afraid of them being damaged in the process of being used. Who knows, once it arrives, I shall give you all a report on the game and why I like it so much, wether you want it or not .....mwhahahaha

News Part XXIII

So, we wander off in hopes of help from the chinese money reserves, while Italy breaks down immediately after economic talks and pays up. HP has kicked the Apotheker and retains the PC-business aspect (finally!) and in Bavaria people fear for their lifes while killers wander around in Augsburg, yet not brought to justice. In Britain princesses are now positioned at the same height as princes in succession law, I feel distinctly remembrance to Crusader King coming up, meanwhile a islamic nutcase fires at the US-American embassy in Sarajevo. Also, Microsoft tries to present itself as an innovator in it´s own right and many journalists laugh. Bunch of nitwits forget that innovation also needs money behind the idea, otherwise every innovation is dying in its birth place. Oh well.

Beat the Beat!

Not so important to have missed yet another self-claimed date in my calendar, when another article in this blog should have gone online, I shall now resume functionality, as far and as wide as in as much as I can help myself to do.

Did I ever tell you about Bastion?

Awesome game. If I did tell you, let me remind you of how awesome it is, by saying, that I am currently revisiting those memories from a few months back thanks to a soundtrack compilation made from it.

Also, I am still awaiting the release of the newest Batman game, wondering why we can´t get a Superman/Thor/CaptainAmerica-Game that is just as good as it seems this new one will be or the previous one was.

Also, the new Syndicate looks like it might be fun to play, but at the same time it seems the designers completely missed the point of Syndicate in their way to Shooter-Heaven.

Still haven´t given The Missing Link, the newest DX3-DLC a whirl, but then again, I could care less for it. Did however give the new Dragon Age 2-DLC a go some days ago, you know, Legacy and Mark of the Assassin. Was ok, but nothing great and sure as hell not groundbreaking or as good as many might claim. The stealth mechanics for the second were nice, the way Bioware continues to make us wait for chapter 4 of DA2 is not however. And I still have yet to preorder StarWars-TheOldRepublic, I really should get to it before it turns December 20th.

Alas, life would be easier, if I had gotten meself one of those gambling successes I so do desire, but then again, what is life if not a journey of misdeeds, ay.

Be seeing you.

Night falls over town

It´s quite dark out there already. Still not at home. Fucking cold at night, weather reports tell of -1°C in some places. FUCK. It´s autumn, damnit, not winter. How do I deserve this, eh?

News still go on about the greeks. Poor people now have to pay for their governments incompetence, as will the whole eurozone for the incompetence of their own. Well, you get what you sow.

eBay still makes millions. Not sure they deserve this but who am I to judge, eh...

In Best Korea people are starting to finally get out of the damn country, starting a movement not unlike the east german one in the 1950s. Unfortunately for Kim, he already has the wall with guards and stuff. On the other hand, South Korea would not even want their neighbour to collapse, because the cost to get them up to speed would be in the hundreds of billions. And the PRoC would be furious as well, as their last puppet state would finally collapse.

I know there are other thins going on at the moment, but mostly I do not care.
For example, I´ve not even laid hands on RAGE, Hard Reset or any of the other stuff in these last fews months. Instead I am out replaying Morrowind or KOTOR2 for the coming Old-Republic Release. I am quite vexed by it. Oh, it´s going to be nice. If I can get my internet connection to cooperate with me for it, that is...

20111017

Well,... FUCK!

Herrje...

Kuckt mal Kinder, eine Textwand. Cool.
